ORANGE BALLOON
Sally was having a birthday party and was standing at the door of her
house waiting for her friends to arrive.
Her long dark brown hair which her mother had washed and
brushed, shone in the sunshine.
She was six years old today, her mother had made her a lovely pink
dress and with a pink ribbon in her hair she looked as pretty as a
picture. Sally and her mum had sent out small cards to invite all her
friends.
In the house, on the table, waiting to be eaten, were jellies, small
fairy cakes, ice cream, cold drinks of all kinds and a large cake with six
candles on it.
Now the little girl was very excited and as it would be sometime
before any of her friends were due to arrive, she decided to walk around
the garden.
The garden was quite large with a lawn to play on. At the bottom
of the garden, there were two fruit trees, an apple and a cherry tree.
Springtime was here and the trees were covered with very pretty
white and pink blossoms.
Sally looked towards the apple tree to admire the blossoms on the
tree, suddenly she saw a shiny orange balloon ?oating down, she
moved towards it thinking.
" What a lovely large balloon, someone must have sent it for my
birthday," but after two or three steps towards the balloon, she stopped
as a little door at the side of the balloon opened.
Sally hadn't noticed the door before, this gave her such a surprise
that she said.
"Oh" Suddenly a head peeped out of the balloon and seeing the
little girl, smiles at her and pulls a small ladder from out of the balloon.
Out steps a small boy, he was carrying a small white dog, the little
boy was dressed in a silver top and blue trousers, silver shoes and blue
hat with a large white feather in the hat.
As he reached the grass, he put the little dog down and taking off
his hat, smiled, made a large bow, sweeping the feather on the ground.
"Good day to you!" called the small elf loudly, for that was what
he was.
Sally was a little frightened to start with but when she saw the
small man smile it seemed alright.
Kneeling down on the grass. Sally looked at the small dog and
softly said to the little man.
"He|lo, I'm Sally," she asked. "What's your name?"
"Silvereen and this is Toby, my dog."
"Are you coming to my birthday party. I can't remember sending
you a card," asked Sally.
"I'm sorry," said the little man, spinning around like a top for a few
seconds, the he sat down on the ground.
"I'm still a little dizzy from my ride in the ship," he said as he stood
up.
"But to answer you, no, l didn't know it was your birthday," he
ended.
"Oh dear, " said the little girl, with a frown on her face.
Silvereen didn't want to see Sally so sad, so he said.
"Seeing it is your birthday, l think I've got something you really
would like."
Sally clapped her hands, smiled at Silvereen saying.
"What is it?"
"Well, sit down and close your eyes while l just go and get it, " said
our friend, so Sally sat on the grass and closed her eyes and waited.
In the meantime Toby went and sat with her to keep her company,
soon Silvereen was back.
"Here," he said handing Sally a small box, it looked the size of a
match box, inside was a very small baby doll, it looked like it was fast
asleep.
"Oh its lovely. Thank you," she said.
Silvereen explained. "This is a special doll, if you say, open your
eyes, she will open her eyes if you say sleep, Rosebud will sleep, that's
her name," he said.
"Now say to her, Rosebud sit up."
Sally looked at her new doll and said. " Rosebud, sit up."
"There," said Silvereen, for the tiny doll had opened her eyes and
sat up.
"She looks so real, thank you very much l will take good care of
her " said Sally.
"I'm pleased you like it," said the Silvereen.
"l now l must be on my way, Toby and l hope you have a lovely
birthday party, don't we Toby."
Toby barked twice, and wagged his tail.
"l'm sorry to see you go," she said, as her two new friends climbed
into the orange balloon ship.
"Goodbye," said Silvereen. "Wuff!" said Toby.
"Bye," called Sally as they moved up into the sky.
Just at that moment Sally's friends started to arrive, the party was a
great success.
Later when Daddy, Mummy and Sally were altogether, she told
them about Silvereen and Toby, and showed them the tiny baby doll,
called Rosebud.
"It's a lovely name" said her mother and her father smiled at his
daughter and looked at Rosebud, who seemed to be smiling all the
time.
"It is an unusual doll, and very pretty, dear," said her father.
Sally smiled at her parents, It was the end of a perfect day for Sally.
